Today, we concluded the 2024 MFC Olympics at Our Lady of the Evergreens School with the “Cell”-a-bration. This event was held to recognize and reward the participants for all the work that they had invested in the MFC Olympics.
This was the first time that it was held at this school and the students were very enthusiastic. As always, it started with a Jeopardy-inspired game with questions about Microbes, the MFC, and the Scientific Method. Then the participants split into groups, taking turns to present to a panel of judges, learn from their peers, enjoy pizzas and drinks, or produce electricity with the bicycle generator. This was followed with the second round of the Jeopardy-inspired game, but with more difficult questions and better prizes.
Finally, the teams with the best presentations and the teams that reported the highest number of blinks with their MFCs were revealed.
Over the 5 months, we were glad that many teams were experimenting by adding various additives like crushed banana, Coke, and sugar into their MFCs. The two teams that reported the highest number of blinks with their MFCs were:
- SCM (Coached by Ms. Hanson)
- Professor Snickertoast (Coached by Ms. Dupont)
SCM also reported the highest number of blinks with both schools. As the highflyers of MFC Olympics, all team members were presented with kites.
Twelve of the twenty-four teams presented their findings, with each class selecting four teams. The five judges were very impressed by many of the presentations. There were two awards for the best presentations, but three teams stood out again. Here are the teams:

- Muddy Buddies (Coached by Ms. Dupont)
- Smartiez (Coached by Ms. Dupont)
All these teams will get to keep their MFC units. We will also be giving each team a digital clock that can be powered by their MFC.
One thing that stood out for us was how the students supported their schoolmates’ successes even though they were competing. There was a loud cheer after each winning team was announced and that was very heart-warming.
At the end of the event, certificates were presented to all the participants in the MFC Olympics. All the participants also received the limited-edition iron-on patches of our MFC mascot.
