We had a discussion with Professor Michael Manefield about the MFC Olympics. Professor Manefield is with the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia and has broad interests in environmental microbiology. He is also the author of a series of illustrated children’s books on microbiology, the latest book is about Geobacter (or Geo). Geo is one of the key players in the Microbial Fuel Cell.
Professor Manefield had generously donated some autographed books for the “Cell”-A-Brations this year. He is also familiar with the MFC kits used in the MFC Olympics. In the future, there might be opportunities to expand the MFC Olympics to schools in Australia too. How exciting!
