We’re excited to introduce two incredible new MFC Coaches this year — Lexi and Jayden, both Grade 5 students from Simons Valley School!
Their MFC journey began last year when their class took part in our hands-on workshop at the 2024 Calgary Mayor’s Environment Expo. This year, they returned — not just as participants, but as mentors. In February, Jayden and Lexi stepped up to help deliver our MFC Building Workshop to two Grade 3 classes at their school.
💬 Jayden, reflecting on his experience, shared:
“It’s really fun and I learned about microbes. It encourages people to learn about science.” He jumped at the chance to become an MFC Coach, eager to build the MFC again and dive deeper into the science he enjoyed.
💬 Lexi was equally inspired:
“It was nice to help out the younger kids.” She loved rediscovering MFCs — a “Grade 4 memory” worth repeating — and was excited to learn more about renewable energy while giving back as a mentor.
Their teacher last year, Ms. Pon, now teaches one of the Grade 3 classes involved this year. She reflected:
“I enjoyed being able to be a part of the MFC build twice with two different groups of students. It was nice to have the opportunity to have my former students who enjoyed the experiment mentor a younger group this time around.”
Over the next two months, the Grade 3 students will observe and experiment with their classroom MFCs. With support from our team, Lexi and Jayden will be helping guide the next generation of young scientists — answering questions, encouraging curiosity, and showing just how fun science can be when you share it with others.
We’re so proud to have these two passionate young leaders as part of our MFC Games family. 💡💚
